Rev. Sara Vurek has been serving our congregation since August of 1997. She graduated from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1994. Growing up in Southern California, she developed a love for the ocean....the beach remains a place of renewal and connecting with God for her. Her love for nature has strengthened an affinity for American Indian spirituality. As a young woman, she spent time in spiritual searching through a number of different traditions -- she continues to appreciate the wisdom found in them, and often brings in these resources to our Sunday Celebrations. Since 1985 or so, she has studied and appreciated the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Zen teacher. In the past four years, she has been seriously studying in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. These studies enrich and inform her understanding of the teachings of Jesus -- giving her new ways to practice the loving kindness,social justice and compassion to which Jesus calls us. Her family includes her husband; two grown children and one daughter in law; her mother-in-law who lives in the Vurek home; and one cat. Her hobbies include a variety of art forms, especially nature photography; baseball (GO GIANTS!) and playing music with her family.
